Race St - Persistence pays off! 8 draws, and the championship!
Race St won the BVFC championship, but was it deserved? YES! …
From one point of view, one would ask, how could a team with 8 draws including both their playoffs (albeit winners from pks), eventually end up at the top. Race St won only 3 games in the entire season and postseason (not including pks), hardly a profound achievement. But in the style that the Giants claimed the NFL crown a couple of years ago, the last place qualifiers dig deep and fight persistently till the final whistle blows. Amidst the echoes of Vatche’s team-building rants, and Chris Bull’s geico-gecko style calls to action, there is a sense of belief in themselves, that throughout the season, they have been kings of comebacks - to Draw! But 8 draws!? Yes, look deeper, and one would see that many of them, especially the most critical games, were Race St coming back to WIN a draw after being down goals. Both the playoff games were exactly this story. Race st were down 2-0 to Bonte and in the last quarter of the game, they were able to draw. In the final, Race St were down 1 goal, and they were able to draw. Hence, what makes a champion? Persistence!
Perhaps the lesson for the others is that, whether you’re up or down, one’s persistence in finishing strong is incredibly important, especially in a battle of wills where Race was triumphant. As they say, “it ain’t over till it’s over.”
Congratulations Race St on a second BVFC Championship.
This was the year of irony. Irony of the final standings: Bonte wins the league, ends up 4th. The top 4 teams that made the playoffs ended up in reverse order! Race, Fuego, Vesuvio and Bonte.

Sad way to recap what was a great game by BOTH teams. Also a great playoffs by ALL teams..
Slow down there “InstantGator”or I will have to remind you again that ONLY 2, yes ONLY 2 teams has won the Championship more than once, BONTE AND RACE ST. This can only be accomplished with true leadership and perserverance.
I think they have not only won the title but also GLOATING rights. So I say to the most decorated teams in the history of the BVFC league, Race St and Bonte, GLOAT ON!!!

Sorry insider, but i must correct you. yes, Only 2 “sponsors” have won the championship, but only 1 team has won the championship more than once, and that’s BONTE. this years Race St. has not ties to the team that won under Conrad’s tutelage.

Gloating?? really? That was more back-handed than anything else, at least upon the first read.
And yes, this was not the same team that won the opening season under Conrad, but it will be the same team defending their championship next season

now that the season is over, it’s time for the PACO conclusions:
1. Bonte: either they are blessed with good luck, or Bula is one of the most effective captains in la liga. 2 back to back championships and then finishing first in the rankings after having to reform the team from scratch (with not the best draft position I might add). Yo can bet, Bonte (or team Bula) will be a team to watch next season
2. The Return of Fuego. After last season, it’s good to see Fuego back where they belong. Welcome back Zack (and the addition of Keith and Ricky didnt hurt)
3. Vesuvio: strong and dangerous as usual with the Ben Graff/Big English core. Always a team to watch, and I am sure they will be battling for the cup next season
4. Race: Persistence, yes! Not just for this season, but this team has a core that went to the final last season. Expect a strong season next year as well. They have a lot of new players that will settle down with the vets.
5. Sure, some teams had bad luck but this was one of the better seasons in recent memory. The teams were pretty even and it really felt like a “friendly” league again. Congratulations to all. I hope we can keep up the sweet attitude next year.
Paco, stop brown nosing. I see what you are trying to do here, you are trying to align yourself with a champions league team. Why don’t you just move back to your country and work the fields.

Yes - 8 draws and a championship. But note, only two losses, and one was with 7 players against Bonte after we clinched a playoff spot, and the other was with me in goal. I thought the point was to not lose?
That said, I really enjoyed this season. Our league is in great health with some balanced sides this year. Certainly telling that the #4 seed captured the title and the #5 team only narrowly missed the playoffs. I’m looking forward to Starr and defending the title next year (after my groin is surgically repaired).
