El Fuego overcomes Vesuvio 3-2 in Overtime to reach first ever final

Published by BVFC at 8:35 am under Latest Scores, Results, General

2nd Semifinal (Bonte v. Race St.) to be played Tuesday Nov 17 at 8pm at Palumbo.

El Fuego and Vesuvio engaged in an epic battle on the muddy Sacks pitch on Saturday. Although the early game was cancelled, the captains for this one agreed to play. Conditions were improved by a lot of groundskeeping work by James and Zach sweeping out the larger puddles. We agreed that, while the pitch was not in the best shape, it would be equal for both teams and would at least be softer.
Each team had pretty full squads, with Kate missing through injury for Fuego and Gabe (injury) and Eli (moved to Colorado) missing for Vesuvio.

The game went back and forth, with the teams tied at the end of 90 minutes 2-2. Goals for Vesuvio by James and goals for Fuego by Stan and Riqui. Due to concerns about diminishing daylight to play in, the captains and refs (thanks Dave and Lance, plus Heri for the first half) decided to do two 10 minute extra periods instead of 15, no golden goal. During the first extra time period, Riqui scored for Fuego. Vesuvio battled hard for an equalizer to take it to pk’s, but were unable to get the tie. Fuego therefore qualified for the final of the BVFC cup by a score of 3-2 after 110 minutes.

Great game, lots of fun, competitive but respectful. Thanks again to the refs.  Ben

Correction - El Fuego made the final in 2007.

Much thanks to James and Zack for their dedication to the league and love for the game, without it Vesuvio/Fuego semi-final wouldn’t have happened on Saturday.

It was a very competitive and fun game.

Special “THANK YOU” to Dave, Lance and Heri for showing up to help out with the reffing.

I am one of the players that played in the race st versus bonte semi last night. I am choosing to stay anonymous to avoid have Dave flip out on me like he does to most people who disagree with him. BVFC NEEDS to hire real refs. The ref job Dave did last night was pretty bad. I am speaking for both teams when I say BOTH of those penatly shots that were awarded, should not have been. I can’t believe he would let those contreversial calls decide a SEMI-FINAL. If BVFC does not fix the ref situation for next year, they will lose another player. Me.

Well said InstantGator. He wanted to give Race St the victory so bad that after each team took 4 pks and Race St leading, he said it was 5 pks. But Bula was quick to the draw and pointed out that it was only 4 kicks taken. Good catch Bula, that’s why you are a captain.

Then you have that slumdog help ref the game, isn’t he going to play in the final. This league has no creditability. I hope it is not just me that notices this.

I have it with this league. I am done. I heard that the Casa League has official refs as well as the Mexican league, 7 v 7.

    goodbye fornever

    so did race street win?
yeah, there are flaws with the league and the way its run, but for the most part its a good league. and how much better would it really be to have paid refs? you’ll get the same type of officiating. people will come on here and say they play in leagues with paid refs and they suck too. i hear the casa league has official refs and that they do bong hits, talk on cell phones during the game, show up late, sometimes don’t show, and do an overall bad job. is that better simply because they are paid?
For $100 you get a 10 game tourney, full kits, and pickups. Still a great deal.
Even if Dave and his slumdog help - whatever that means - were in cahoots and wanted race street to win, who cares. get over it. you’ll live.

Man, Race St. should have lost! That team has nothing. Alex is an OK keeper, Heri and Vatche are a joke and that midfield? I’ve seen better midfielders in the special olympics.

The only good part is that bonte is out. About time. Sick of them getting into every bvfc final. I’m glad they got put in their place, and why does steffan dive like an italian?

If the refs helped tilt the game towards Race, St. God love them. better luck next season waffles!

I don’t think Dave and Ricky wanted race street to win. They gave that cheap foul on Juan which gave bonte a pk which put bonte up 2-0. And Dave seemed to be affraid to call a foul on that superstarr Glenn. And if anyone looked at glenn with cross eyes, he called a foul on them! The truth brings up a good point. Maybe Dave was hitting the bong before he came to ref.

Well, I did not agree with that call that awarded the PK to Bonte, but I’m sure Bonte players did not agree with the call that gave us a PK later in the game.

Dave did as good a job as anyone but what a game! That was quite a comeback and we are now looking forward to the finals!!

Race v Fuego @ 2PM at Sacks. Vesuvio v Bonte for 3rd place at noon. Come out and support!
