Race edges out Via in 3-2 showdown

Published by BVFC under Latest Scores, Results

Very fun, close game last night between Race and Via.

Final score…3 -2. Race won but it could have gone either way. We had many opps including a late second half shot off the post. Also we seem to be cursed with penalty kicks (another missed one :( but the offense passed well and looked dangerous. The game started with a short handed Race team getting on the board early with a nice attack on the right side by Vincenzo. Not 3 minutes later we answered with a left footed volley in front of the goal by Justin.

Race was strong and determined as usual. Good overall sportsmanship considering we had no ref.

Scorers:
Via. Justin with a nice volley off a cross in front of the box. Ricky put in a Penalty (2nd of the game)

Race: Vince had the first one, and Conrad put in #3. Not sure who scored the
second

Final eye update

Published by bgraff under General

Hey everybody, here’s the latest update on the eye. I went to see the surgeon for my 2 1/2 week post-op appointment. They were very pleased with how everything looks. Anyone who has seen me lately knows that I have been going without the eyepatch for a week or so. I don’t have any double vision in my regular line of sight, but do have some to the sides. It’s not a problem unless I move my head really quickly, in which case I get a little nauseous.

The doctor has cleared me for all activities as far as the eye and the plate are concerned (the plate is good and stuck in there now). If it wasn’t for the double vision and nausea, I could even play soccer (so long as I was rockin’ the Rec Specs). I’m not sure how effective I would be on the field if I could only keep my head straight or puke. If we make the finals and go down a man because of an injury . . . we’ll see.

Vesuvio Vs Race - A friendly forfeit

Published by jmp under Latest Scores, Results

The game between Race Street and Vesuvio I believe ended in a fitting tie of 7 all. Both teams came out to the pitch on a chilly Saturday afternoon both knowing they would be short players. Rather than playing a full field 9 v 7, with both teams not being fit due to last weekends rain out,  it was agreed upon that we would just pull both nets up to the 18 yardlines and play a small sided 8 v 8. One Vesuvio player had to fill in for the short handed Race Street. I am sad to say that since that brave person filled in on their squad, he has received several death threats from loyal Vesuvio fans. On a serious note, this was probably one of the most enjoyable games I and many of us have played all year. There were flashes of brilliance along with flashes of rust. The MVP’s of the game had to be both goalies, Alex and Mike. At times it seemed like a firing range on both keepers, but both made some outstanding saves. More importantly the play was physical at times, but no one complained that one team was being more physical than the other. If someone got knocked to the ground or fouled, the player that fouled was there to help the player up. There were no cries that one team was being unfair by not calling an offsides or a hand ball on themselves. No one complained about the refs, because there were none. Everyone just played the beautiful game the way it is supposed to be played. A personal thanks to both Race Street and Vesuvio for restoring my faith that there are still teams in this league that just want to go out and play without any nonsense.

Burritos making a comeback with two big wins

Published by BVFC under Latest Scores, Results

El Fuego beat Race St 3-0 after winning against the Roosters 2-1

Out of the depths of the injured and forgotten comes el Fuego who are actively bidding for a qualification spot in the playoffs.

Zack reported with pure joy: “just thought i’d send the scores in from the past two games from el fuego. tuesday: el f. 3 - race st. 0 thursday: el f. 2 - h.rooster 1″. No details are available about the games and the scorers, but winning 3-0 versus Race St is a huge achievement. Onward and Upward for Zack, Richard and their crew.

El Fuego and Via are now wrestling for the 6th and final qualification spot and with these two wins, the burritos have the edge.

Richard’s Report (who sounds a bit like Gol TV’s Ray Hudson)

Two good wins on the bounce for the stunning burritos. We had 10 players (for the most part) for both games and we were solid in over all parts of the pitch in both of them. To be fair to the Racers they only had 9 players for their game but nevertheless they are always dangerous.

Big thanks to Ricky for refereeing - once again you did an excellent job, my friend. I’m not just saying that, you really made an effort to get your positioning which is a huge part of refereeing. The game against the Cocks was refereeless, and I think both sides should be commended for getting on with it with (all things considered) very little bitching and moaning.

Some highlights for me were James’ goal against the Racers - a stunning first-time smash off a trademark Zack ’sveeetch’ as Mikhail says, the continued development of John the Greek (who just keeps getting better and better with every game), the mind-control tactics of Geronimo (the new Yuri Geller), and the return of the ‘thunder and lightning’ combination of Johnathan and Alex at the back. Also, despite me flubbing a knuckle-ball shot in goal to make it 2-1 with ten minutes to go, the commitment and calm concentration showed by the Fuegans to close out the game.

Both games were played in an excellent spirit and I have to give big props to my man big Mike at the heart of the Rooster’s defence. Last night he came through time and time again to stymie waves of burrito attacks. Without him we would have had more shots than an old people’s home during flu season.

Watch out playoffs, here we come !

Happy Roosters beat Via 4-2

Via suffered a bump in their bid for the 6th spot this past Tuesday when they lost to the Happy Roosters 4-2. The game was played without a ref, and was scarred by some call fighting. For the Roosters, this is a huge win to keep their playoff hopes alive… just. The Roosters must win ALL their games, while hoping that both Fuego and Via lose all theirs.

League Standings Updated

Come out and watch some great games being played tomorrow:

Bonte plays Fergies at Noon at Sacks, while Race St are looking to preserve their lead over Vesuvio at 2pm.
