It seems like the start of games on Sunday have been sliding later and later, mostly because folks have been coming to the field late. Let’s try to get to the field on time and get the games started on time, so that people who have the later games are not there waiting around for their game. Remember, games at Palumbo on Sundays start at 11:30, 1:15 and 3:00.

The call from Palumbo came in this morning. They would like us to postpone our games due to the soggy conditions of the Palumbo field.
I know this is shocking. What the hell are we supposed to do with our weekend now? I guess you should all drink a lot of beer and watch TV. Go see a movie. Spend some time with the family.

All games today have been postponed due to the obvious rain.. die-hards would love to play, but to preserve the little we have in the form of pitch integrity, we are rescheduling all games today.
If the pitch is waterlogged, we may have to cancel all Sunday (tomorrow) games too. This is not final, and will be posted on the blog by 9.30 AM tomorrow.
Make up schedule for all games missed will be announced shortly.
Cheers. BVFC.

No details about the games or scorers are available, but word on the street is that the Patriots and Vesuvio battled to a 2-2 draw, while Fergies beat short handed Fuego 6-3.
League standings with 2 weeks remaining. Fergies is climbing its way up and has a number of games left as they were postponed. Via, Roosters and Fuego now battling for the 6th position and make it to playoffs. Patriots, Vesuvio, Race St and Bonte are all vying for the top 2 positions to get the first round bye. The roosters or burritos could still win the tournament.

Some of our BVFC friends from across the pond must be mighty happy after yesterday’s CL games. Aresenal by 7-0, ManU by 4-2, Rangers drawing with Barcelona.
Plus, Leeds can see the top of the standings in League Seven.

Race St. v. Fergies: 1-1
This was a very good game with end to end action. The first goal came from a penalty by Race St, while the equalizer came from Tri’s superb volley from a cross. The game was a nailbiter, with one goal disallowed because it was offside. All in all, solid performance by both teams. The game ended 1-1, and well reffed by Max.
Bonte v. Rooster: 6-0
Bonte extended their winning streak with a 6-0 win over the Roosters. The first 3 goals came in 15 minutes, beginning with Chris Bull’s shot. Bula headed in one from Keith’s strong run down the left wing, and Big Kev added a 3rd from a well controlled cross from Ricky, which Kev buried with the left foot. I believe Decer scored the fourth. In the second half, Chris Bull headed one in from a long cross. I think Ricky scored the last, but cannot be sure. Chris Haines, Keith, Lace, Jared, Dominic and Heri were a fort in the back letting almost nothing through. To cap this off, Fabio had the save of the century with an spectacular one handed reflex dive to fend of a might shot at goal, easily the highlight of the day by GolTV or FSC standards. “Our team is in Sync. Leah, Ben and Chris play great wings to spread the game out wide, while our back and midfield move the ball around with simple and effective passing. Such unselfishness in passing and our continuous movement to get open and ready, is great to see. Let’s not pat ourselves just yet as we will be tested this Saturday.” - Bula. Bonte plays Vesuvio this Saturday at Sacks.
El Fuego v. Patriots
The Burritos and Pats played a friendly as the former were not able to field a full team, and elected to forfeit.

Vesuvio is one of those teams that excels at coming back when they are down, and put in maximum effort until the last whistle. On Saturday they proved this point by almost pulling off a reversal when they were a man down and behind by 2 points at the half.
Via showed up with 14 players, so we had subs to spare and we pressed early and hard since Vesuvio only had 9 players. The first goal came off of a quick shot from Diego that Vesuvio keeper, Dave, managed to get his hands on but it still bounced into the goal. The second goal was a Horn family special. Ricky Horn’s mom would be proud to know that her middle son shares with his older brother. Ricky penetrated the Vesuvian defense to the line, then crossed in front of Dave to allow brother Alex Horn to tap the ball into the goal, putting the Bicycles up 2-0 at the half.
It seemed like that was the match, considering Vesuvio was down a player and the momentum was clearly with Via. As stated before, 45 minutes can be a long time.
Vesuvio came out strong in the 2nd half, throwing their talented front line against the Bicycle defense which started to buckle under the pressure. The first response came after a Bicycle foul just outside the box. Vesuvio got on the board on a strong Andy Hallman direct kick that beat the Via keeper to the right post. 2-1. Tasting blood, Vesuvio continued to press and were rewarded by a late half opportunity in front of Via’s left post that was muscled in by Luis. It was now a 2-2 game.
Via tightened up their defense and started pushing back up the field with desperation since we had thrown away a lead against an undermanned (yet still potent) Vesuvio team. The renewed pressure lead to several missed opportunities that could have settled the game so we were just about to settle for a draw when lady luck played her hand. A hand ball in the Vesuvio box with 3 minutes left in the match was the deciding factor. Diego took the penalty and squeezed it past Dave for the win. This game could have gone either way. Vesuvio fought to the end.

Via upset Vesuvio 3-2 today. The Calamaris played with 9. Scorers and game report coming shortly by JMP. Fergies and Happy Rooster postponed their game since both teams could not get enough players to play in what was perfect weather.

Bonte had a win over el Fuego yesterday. The score at the half was 2-0, and the burritos lost 2 players due to injury (hamstring and quad pull). Short handed, and only 8 men strong, the burritos were left to defend the waffles, a tough task considering they played a 2 man defense. The waffles put 6 goals and it ended 8-0. Adel scored 4, Chris bull, Ricky, Bula, and Big Kev scored the others. Thank you Sarah for reffing.
On Tuesday, Vesuvio beat Roosters 3-0 while Race St. lost to Patriots 2-0, a first.

Hey everybody, Ben here. Surgery was on Tuesday, about 1:00. They ended up taking out the one broken orbital bone under the eye and putting in a titaniam-reinforced plastic piece in its place. The surgeon thought it went really well.
I was in a good bit of pain afterwards, but at least they gave me the good Oxycodone dope, so that helped. Now the pain is a little better, I have not taken any today. I have a patch oveer the eye because I have a lot of double vision, so it is really annoying to have that eye open. I’m on steriods (not the Ricky kind) so that should help with the swelling and the double vision.
I go to the surgeon for my post-op appointment on Friday. I’m out of work for the rest of the week to just rest up, but I hope to be out to the Vesuvio game this weekend.
All good (or as good as can be).
