Saturday: Vesuvio edges Roosters 2-1, Fergies defeat Via

Published by BVFC at 9:28 am under Latest Scores, Results

Vesuvio Beats Cocks on Saturday by Ben Graff
Vesuvio started with 10 players while Happy Rooster had about 73 subs
(actually, 4, but it seemed like they were yelling “Ref, sub” about
every 2 minutes). This was especially difficult because (i) the clouds
blew off and it was very hot and humid and (ii) Sacks is a legit
regulation field (lotsa room to cover). Roosters started off strong
with Abdul and Jerry linking up on the forward line, with Bill doing his
best to chase Abdul all around the field from the defensive mid
position. Rooster struck first off a nice shot from Amidou (I think
after a corner kick) to put them up 1-0. Around this time, Robin had to
leave for work. I’m not sure if they scored before or after she left.
Anyway, after a while of watching Vesuvio chase while down a man, our
wounded warrior Walter yelled out “who’s got some friggin’ socks?”.
Yes, he was coming in like Willis Reed, bad leg and all. Walt ended up
playing out wide in the mid and did a great job harassing the Rooster
left back and interfering with the their offensive build-up. Dave got
the first goal for the Calamaris with just a few minutes left in the
half. It looked just like Hurst for England in ‘66. The ball hit the
underside of the bar and deflected down, then out. The linesman
confirmed that it crossed the line, so the game was tied. The second
half was more of the same, with the both sides generating good chances
while their respective defenses and keepers held tight. Marco ended up
putting in the game winner for Vesuvio who then held on for the victory.
It was a well fought game from both sides, with good sportsmanship all
around. Ricky reffed, while Kevin, Zack and Golden Boot British James
ran the lines. Thanks to them.
Fergies 3, Via 0 by jmp
In the other game, Fergies beat Via 3-0. It was a much closer game than
the score implies and the struggling bicycles actually played well. We
had several penetrations and opportunities in the Fergies
box, but could not convert. In all, a less than desired result but one
more chance to play
and gel as a team.

As stated in the comments, Jimmy O., Tri, and Tim scored for the
lucky charmers.

    Hello all,

I will be reffing tomorrows game Vesuvio Vs Via (Sacks), I need 2 volunteers to be linesman and we need a ref and 2 linesman for the game at Palumbo.

Man we’ll come back, and whoever apparently edited Ben’s post is really just hype for nothing.

yo dudes– we need a ref at the palumbo game (8:00) for tomorrow. don’t leave us hanging. it will be ugly without some help– sidelines too. don’t be shy. tues. night TV sucks anyway.

Sorry bro, I’ll be playing at Sacks.

  9. Jenniferon 25 Sep 2007 at 6:17 am

I can the first half, but I play at eight and someone has to watch agustina.

  10. Diegoon 25 Sep 2007 at 7:47 am

I would propose that each TEAM has to volunteer at least TWO (if not more) players to ref. It can not be that the same people are refering ALL the games.

This is something that the Board needs to discuss ASAP, or otherwise, we would be having problem for every game.

    just my $ .05

PS. I do not mind refering games…I actually like it. And I will do it anytime.

  12. Rickyon 25 Sep 2007 at 8:07 am

Actually, that was one of the first points I made before the draft and it seems as though everyone ignored it or it could just be that I wasn’t clear enough. Its seems as though its the same bunch of people keep reffing. Come on people let return the favor.

Dave, is there a ref for the 7PM Vesuvio/Via game?

  14. Daveon 25 Sep 2007 at 8:39 am

Ricky said he was going to do it but needs linesmen

  15. Rickyon 25 Sep 2007 at 9:28 am

I’m sick but will be there. Need linesmen.

  16. adminon 25 Sep 2007 at 10:31 am

Ricky, sorry to hear. Should I call other refs on the list?

  17. Vogton 25 Sep 2007 at 10:36 am

it was my understanding that the refs would come from the pre-approved list. That those individuals were the most qualified to ref. If that is not the case, then I’d gladly ref the palumbo game tonight. Just let me know. Thanks.

Admin, You can call other refs and i can do the line. I am in no mood to run around, Thanks. Also, Kev I don’t think we have a ref at Palumbo, so feel free. Thanks again.

  19. bgraffon 25 Sep 2007 at 12:43 pm

I agree, Kev if you can do it that would be great.

  20. Vogton 25 Sep 2007 at 2:27 pm

    I’ll be there.
