Did the Captains have any say on the need of their teams or as usual did the board “decide” to assign players to the teams? Inquiring minds want to know.
JM
The board based the assignments on a highly sophisticated formula, including but not limited to, players age, height, weight, jersey size, background, skill level, section of the city in which they live, and other factors.
Let’s get ready to get ready!!!
Oh! Yes the “all-knowing, paternalistic” board ..How can I forget!
By the way, I’ve been reading some of the comments posted and have yet to read anyone mention officiating the games. The “all-knowing board” has decided to increase our dues for the season, fair enough, most leagues in and around the city do charge about that amount but they also have official referees, not someone who’s been watching the EPL on week-ends for the past year or so!!!! All this to ask a simple question;
Will we have official referees for the games or some other EPL-watching novice???? Maybe we are not allowed to question the “all-knowing board”!!
Inquiring minds want to know.
JM
THE EPL SUCKS
AND SO DO THESE POSTS
GET A LIFE
The “all-knowing” board is made up of people who have day jobs, families, and a life outside of this league, yet we dedicate a lot of time to this project.
JM, maybe you should volunteer your ass to ref the games, unless u consider yourself an EPL novice.
Well! jmp if you feel it is too much for you too handle with your “day job, family and let’s not forget a life outside of the league” just say NO! Unless someone is holding a gun to your head or maybe it’s just a
“power trip” being part of the “all-knowing” board.
JM (asshole)
Did I strike a nerve!!! I was wondering how long it would take before the use of profanities!!!I guess it was too much to expect a civil debate. This goes back to my initial question, You don’t question the “all-knowing” board!!!
By the way, next time you feel the urge to edit my comments, don’t do it, take it like or is that too much to ask from you!!!!!
JM(don’t edit JMP)!!!!
Since I’m on my powertrip, I’ll edit your posts. Next, the board will take over the world!!!!
Board “decides”. Any further questions?
is jm and jmp the same person? this is all very confusing. as bvfc is only a recreational league– one that is run by hard-working people who don’t make money off of the league (cue various philly mexican leagues, the inter-county league, rocket sports, etc.)– i think jm should consider playing elsewhere. really there are plenty of other leagues where jm’s pointless commentary would be met with a subtle boot to the face or perhaps a ball through his/ her legs in front of thirty-seven drunk fans laughing all the while. cheers jm… good luck in bvfc! its a massive refereelss adventure.
furthermore, logistically the league is not in a position to pay such referee fees… the idea of comparative league fees is unfounded as other leagues in the city charge per season (i.e. most seasons are from sept.- dec. or april-may)… the value comparison is off. nobody wants to pay $100 per bvfc season. the reality is that bvfc without referees is still cheaper than other leagues.
Zack’s right. The going rate in the suburbs is about $80 for 6-8 45-minute games. With that, you get no uniforms and referees that openly drink beer or whatnot and talk on their cell phones on the field during the match. The fact of the matter is you’re not going to get perfect refereeing no matter where you go, so bitching about it is about as useful as a chocolate saucepan.
Did somebody say chocolate?
Seriously, if anyone has a legitimate complaint, we welcome your input. But please keep your tone respectful of the other members and volunteers, or else your comments WILL be moderated. It is not personal nor directed to specific members, but we are merely a social league trying to enjoy the beautiful game.
jm and jmp are not the same people, sorry for the confusion. Also, sorry for my tactless response to jm.
Zack lays out a solid case.
I paid my money and registered so how come I am not on that list?
Dan, the list needs to be updated
Hey JM - re. your referee post. Why don’t you take a referee certification course, learn the laws of the game (we don’t have rules, they are laws), put in some time refereeing kids games to learn your trade, move up to adult games gaining in experience, then volunteer (i.e. you do not get paid) to referee some games yourself? That would be more productive, unless you’d rather continue whining like a spoiled kid.
The going rate for a qualified referee (I hold a qualification from the FA of England, by the way) at this level is $50 per game. I could go and ref in plenty of leagues round this area and get paid to do so. I, just like all the others, volunteer and do not expect payment, so your comments will only serve to deter qualified people from officiating.
I think we should get Budweiser to do a ‘real men of genius’ commercial for you.
I just wanted to say that my very first game with BVFC was this past Sunday, and it was one of the most excellent experiences I’ve had with the game in a long time. I played in some of the more casual leagues around here for a while since I spent the last few years doing some endurance sports and didn’t want to risk a knee or ankle injury, and BVFC blows them out of the water.
I was a bit nervous about joining a team where I didn’t know anyone, but they are all awesome and were completely welcoming - even though I’m totally rusty and they could dribble circles around me. It was good to see the refs doing a great job and actually having fun while they were out there. To give a bit of perspective, one of the last few games I played in saw the ref never moving out of centerfield, which resulted in countless bad calls, half a dozen missed handballs, and a lot of balls that went out of bounds that weren’t whistled … all that for what amounts to basically a pick-up game. And, yes, those seasons are about 6-8 weeks and cost close to $80. Oh, and I should mention that the fields are in better shape than many others I’ve played on in and around Philadelphia.
That is exactly the kind of feedback I wanted, a dialogue not a “if you don’t like it” comment. I do agree with Leah, if I have a legitimate question, comment or concern I will voice it. Anyone who knows me can attest to that. I don’t use profanities, my comments may sting a little but I will speak my mind, wether one agrees with me or not. On that note, until next time BVFC!!!
JM
what is the meaning of “legitimate”
the oposite of “illegitimate”
Hello, I’m interested in getting on a team in the league if possible. I know the rules and am a experienced player in decent shape.
Thank you for sharing!
